Consider a basketball that is completely covered in 1inch long hair. The hairy ball theorem states that you cannot continuously comb flat the hair on the basketball.  We will start off by introducing the notion of a continuous vector field and discuss some basic properties. Everyone will then get to use markers and balloons to make a geometric proof for the hairy ball theorem.

Everybody is welcome to come learn math with balloons.
