We will discuss the utilization of asymptotic structure and of Banach space-valued trees with branches of certain types, in connection to nonlinear Banach space geometry.

In particular, we will discuss coarse rigidity properties of reflexive Banach spaces that are "very" smooth. An interesting application is a coarse version of a celebrated theorem of Tsirelson which states that there exists a Banach space that does not contain any ℓp-space nor C0. In particular, there is a Banach space (Tsirelson's original space) that does not coarsely contain Hilbert space.

This is a joint work with G. Lancien and Th. Schlumprecht.
