Title:  A Second, er, Third Look at the Data

Abstract:  The digital revolution of thirty years ago ushered in the Information Age. Everything is digital, bits and pixels, but the world of information is both bigger and simpler than that. Dr. Ray will draw from his three careers, industry, academia and government, to show that the science of analog waveforms still guides the science of information. The use of transforms and the cost of operating within the digital framework will be explored using examples from each of his careers. The talk will conclude with an introduction to recent work that exposes the flaw in thinking that more information always improves performance.
