Two figures are similar if they have the same shape, but one may be drawn at a larger scale.

In the figure above, P1 and P8 are similar. They are both triangles and the only difference is that the sides of P1 are about twice as long as the sides of P8. The fact that P8 is turned around does not change the fact that they are similar.
